Begun in 1999, Adventure Life promotes and operates custom land tours to countries all around the world. Online reviews complement the Missoula, Montana, company on its ability to adjust customers’ trips when itineraries change. Adventure Life belongs to several tourism-promoting organizations, including the International Galapagos Tour Operators Association (IGTOA).
A nonprofit organization consisting of travel companies and conservation organizations, IGTOA seeks to preserve the Galapagos Islands. It educates individuals and provides funds to help ensure that the area remains protected for present and future generations of travelers.
In June 2015, IGTOA reported that the Galapagos National Park Directorate declared that the captain and crew of the Fer Mary I fishing boat were guilty of illegally fishing for protected animals found in the Galapagos Marine Reserve (GMR). This decision marks the first time that all defendants in an illegal fishing case found in GMR received guilty verdicts. The boat and crew were captured on July 19, 2011, inside the GMR with more than 350 illegally harvested sharks.
IGTOA had indirect involvement in the ruling through its monetary support of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and that organization’s efforts to improve the judiciary response to GMR marine issues.
